Project Overview:

2/9: Searching for Design Heroes

The first thing we had to do was to (of course) determine who our design hero is. I wasn't exactly the most cultured in my knowledge of well known prolific designers, but this gave me the chance to search and learn more about some.

The two I ended up considering, was Muriel Cooper and Peter Saville as both of them were prolific and well known designers. Muriel, on one hand, was a literal pioneer in both print and digital design, while Peter Saville was known for his album covers and probably created one of the most widespread album cover that’s been used on clothing, posters etc.

I needed to decide on one designer, however. In this case, I picked Muriel Cooper as I was amazed by not only the volume of work and exploration she did, but also her personality and passion. I personally thought it was interesting that John Maeda (former RISD president) was a student of hers and I was attracted to a lot of her printed works too.

2/16: Muriel Cooper — Moodboard + Research Essay

Research is an essential part to this project, and writing an essay is the best way to do it. In addition to that, we were asked to make moodboards of our designer so we can see a bit of their work and what typefaces/colors they might've used before that might help us emulate their design style.
